the country today. >>> you can see the lines are getting longer. things are getting busier at san francisco international airport. we'll show you what the conditions are like right now and why the conditions may change. >>> wet, windsy conditions marching through parts of the bay area this morning. i'll have what you can expectcoming -- expect coming up. >>> good morning, to you. welcome to a brand new day friday december 21st i'm dave clark. >> and i'm tori campbell in for pam cook. let's get a quick look at weather and traffic. rosemary is in for steve. this is the first day of winter. >> you are right. the arrival of winter. here comes the winter storm. actually we're not as cold out there this morning. the winter chill will subside with this moist more mild air in place. with the cloudy conditions overhead temperatures anywhere from 10-20 degrees warmer. we've got rain falling over the north bay. you can see steady moisture pulling in. we see heavier rainfall. clear lake down into hidden valley. and it's off the bay or off the coast i should say heading into highway 1. this will continu
to the desk. >>> san francisco international airport is gearing up for what could be the busiest day holiday travel day of the season. allie rasmus is live there at the airport with information on how many passengers could pass the airport today. >> reporter: it's supposed to be one of the busiest travel days of the year for san francisco international airport with 130,000 passengers making their way in and out of the terminals here in a single day. even at 4:30 in the morning you can see there is more foot traffic. there is more activity than we expect to see here on a friday morning. you can see a number of cars and passengers unloading their stuff out of the taxis. making their way into terminal two. inside we just checked the board, we're happy to report there are no delays or canceled flights out of sfo. in fact, we saw one flight was leaving ten minutes early. that was heading to washington. that could all change as the day goes on because of the weather. rain is supposed to move in through the bay area later this morning. that usually creates delays at sfo. again it's not raining. the
dropping news out of san francisco where four pedestrians were injured when they tried to get out of the way of a speeding vehicle. it happened at 10:00 tonight at the city's twin looking points. four people werewalking when a driver came speeding down the road near that look out point. several people had to jump out of the k rail to get away. two of them had to be taken to the hospital, two of them possibly in critical condition. a witness on the scene told ktvu four people were detained. he said he saw four people in handcuffs while a fourth was injured. we will bring you a live update just as soon as we can get more information. >>> now to solano county where a hit-and-run driver killed a man and his dog today. we're going to eric rasmussen who has the story. >> reporter: one neighbor told me she saw the tire tracks but saw no man and no suspect. >> they were going too far for the neighborhood. left him for dead, did not stop. >> reporter: kevin bowl was walking his own dogs when he got the word. his long time friend and neighbor thomas had been hit at the intersection of sutt
've had light conditvery happ to see that getting into san francisco. the wet weather has not reached the toll plaza but it certainly has reached parts of the north bay. rosemary will be here in a moment to elaborate on that. 237, westbound, looks like some sun there and traffic light. when you see this light traffic, you know we're having a lighter than usual day. in the south bay, we don't have a lot of slow traffic, just some traffic approaching the mckee road turnoff. let's go to rosemary. >>> good morning. gearing up for a wet holiday weekend ahead. ten minutes until the official sunrise. a mix of clouds out there and a few peaks of sunshine. we're looking at rain continuing to shot. all the way down into san francisco. this eventually will hit the ground and it should happen toon. the north bay has been hammered at times. along highway 101, redwood boulevard, san marin drive, light to moderate rain falling in nova doe, lucas valley, san rafael, seeing light to moderate rain. it was coming down pretty good a few minutes ago. light rain all the way down into daly city and it looks
vega is live at san francisco international. a lot of flights getting canceled out there. >> reporter: that's right. there's been steady traffic here all morning. i just chicked the boards -- checked the boards there are numerous delays hans cancellations. the storm has brought in the wind and rain which has caused low visibility for pilots. that's caused delays of about 65 minutes. there's been 60 canceled flights. most of these are on commuter flights up and down the west coast. the lines at the security checkpoints are pretty backed -- packed. considerings we spoke to being affected -- passengers we spoke to being affected are trying to take it in stride. >> my plate is delayed about an hour and a half -- flight is delayed about an hour and a half. >> reporter: normally, planes departing from sfo take off and land from the north but because of the storm and winds faa has been departing from the south. airport officials are advising travelers to call their airline or check the status before coming to the airport. >> there are flights that are leaving on time today. but because of th
saturday night. >> we have to pray. >> reporter: he is one of 67 homicide victims in san francisco so far this year, compared to 50 last year. in an effort sparked by gun violence in the connecticut school shootings they took aim at bullets. they are proposing legislation, making it illegal for non- police officers to have hollow point bullets like this one. >> to ammunition that has been designed for military use has no reason to be on our streets. >> reporter: the second proposal, any gun dealer notify police of anyone who buys more than 500 rounds of ammo at one time. >> track the people, and frequency of purchase. >> reporter: the manager doubt the efforts will reduce violence. >> it will restrict those that need the tools to defend themselves when the police aren't present. >> keep the kids safe. >> reporter: the board of supervisors is expected to take up the proposals next month and police chief announced all police officers will be retrained in the tactics of school safety. reporting live, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> officials fined 12 hospitals for failures that caused or
